Smoking Gun

The taped conversations between President Arroyo and Commission on Elections (Comelec) on instructions to cheat massively for her to win the polls are genuine, while the MalacaƱang-claimed "original" copy has been doctored, a source knowledgeable in the ways of splicing tapes as well as spotting inconsistencies found in "faked" tapes told the Tribune yesterday, following the release to the media of the claimed tapes by presidential spokesman and Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye.

Also, in a privilege speech delivered yesterday, Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel Jr. posed questions that all pointed to the authenticity of the tape which MalacaƱang now tries to pass off as fabricated, even as Pimentel, in an interview with television reporters demanded the resignation of Mrs. Arroyo.

He asked Bunye to shed light on the following questions since it was he who brought the matter up for public discussion, among which was whether the conversation took place when the canvassing of the presidential votes was on-going and at a time when the President was tailing her main rival, Fernando Poe Jr.
